A rich and cheesy casserole layering ground beef, sliced potatoes, and creamy cheese sauce—comfort food at its finest.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 5–6 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced (about 1/8 inch)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella, optional
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika, optional
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with olive oil or butter.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef or turkey with chopped onion and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup with milk, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Spread half of the cooked meat over the potatoes and sprinkle with 1 cup cheddar cheese.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, meat, and cheese. Top with mozzarella if using.
  6. Pour the soup mixture evenly over the casserole.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is golden and potatoes are tender.

Notes

  • Optional: garnish with chopped parsley or green onions before serving.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle paprika or smoked paprika on top.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave.
