Creamy Chicken Sausage Orzo – A one-pan comfort meal with tender sausage, creamy sauce, Parmesan cheese, and optional spinach. Quick, flavorful, and minimal cleanup!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken sausage, sliced (mild or spicy)
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup fresh spinach (optional)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
  2. Sauté diced onion 2–3 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add orzo to the skillet and toast 1–2 minutes. Pour in chicken broth, bring to a simmer, and cook until orzo is tender and liquid mostly absorbed (8–10 minutes).
  4. Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and cooked sausage. Add spinach if using until wilted.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Serve hot with extra Parmesan if desired.

Notes

  • Swap chicken sausage for turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • Add sun-dried tomatoes or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • One-pan magic: minimal cleanup!
