Pretzel Chicken with Mustard-Cheddar Sauce is a crispy baked chicken dish coated in crushed pretzels and served with a rich, tangy, cheesy mustard sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups coarsely crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Mustard-Cheddar Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Season chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Prepare breading station: flour in one bowl, eggs mixed with Dijon mustard in another, and crushed pretzels in a third.
  4. Coat chicken in flour, dip into egg mixture, then press into pretzels to coat.
  5. Place on baking sheet and bake 25–30 minutes until golden and cooked through (165°F internal temp).
  6. Make sauce: In a saucepan, heat milk, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce over medium heat.
  7. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve chicken with warm mustard-cheddar sauce.

Notes

  • Use finely crushed pretzels for a tighter crust.
  • Don’t skip the mustard in the egg wash—it helps flavor and binding.
  • Serve with roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes.
