  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie or sub rolls
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for toasting rolls)
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  3. Roll into 1–1.5 inch meatballs and bake for 18–20 minutes.
  4. Heat marinara sauce in a saucepan and add cooked meatballs. Simmer 10–15 minutes.
  5. Optional: butter and toast rolls for 3–5 minutes.
  6. Fill rolls with meatballs and sauce.
  7. Top with mozzarella and provolone cheese.
  8. Broil for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Do not overmix meat mixture for tender meatballs.
  • You can pan-fry meatballs instead of baking.
  • Add extra marinara for a juicier sub.
